About The Position

We’re seeking a full-time Medical Sonographer to join the UTHealth Department of Neurology in Houston, TX, where you’ll play a key role in advancing cerebrovascular care across both inpatient and outpatient settings. In this specialized position, you’ll focus on non‑imaging transcranial Doppler (TCD) and cerebrovascular ultrasound, performing studies on adult and pediatric patients with an emphasis on cerebral hemodynamics rather than traditional imaging. Working closely with vascular neurology, neurocritical care, and stroke teams, you’ll contribute directly to real-time clinical decision making through TCD evaluations for stroke, vasospasm, emboli detection, right‑to‑left shunt studies, and carotid duplex ultrasound—making your expertise central to patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required
  • RVT or RVS required (or eligible)
  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology required
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree preferred
  • Previous experience in diagnostic ultrasound preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operates ultrasound equipment and performs a variety of technical procedures to produce images for patient diagnosis.
  • Operates ultrasound equipment and records results.
  • Adjusts parameters on equipment, and reviews calibrations to assure that scans are reproducible under similar conditions.
  • Assists with research activities.
  • Performs basic maintenance on equipment to assure proper working conditions.
  • May participate in diagnosis process to access maternal and fetal well-being.
  • Assists with research activities by collecting data and participating in research projects.
  • Demonstrates the use of ultrasound equipment and techniques to assist with the education of students, nurses, residents, patients, and physicians.
  • Attend continuing education seminars to stay abreast of technological advances in ultrasound and antenatal testing.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
