About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Medical Secretary to support a busy specialty medical practice in Baltimore, MD. This is a fast-paced, administrative-focused role that works behind the scenes to support providers, coordinate patient care, and manage insurance-related processes. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of insurance authorizations, referrals, scheduling, and Epic EMR.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in one of the following: Medical Secretary, Patient Access Representative, Prior Authorization Specialist, Referral Coordinator, Medical Office Administrator
  • Experience working in a hospital or high-volume medical practice
  • Previous Epic EMR experience required
  • Strong knowledge of: Insurance prior authorizations, Insurance referrals, Insurance verification, Medication authorizations, Appointment scheduling, Insurance portals and payer processes
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Support scheduling and patient volume management for 3–4 physicians
  • Schedule patient appointments using Epic EMR
  • Answer incoming phone calls and assist with administrative inquiries
  • Obtain insurance prior authorizations for surgeries, procedures, medications, and office visits
  • Process insurance referrals and verify insurance coverage on a daily basis
  • Navigate insurance portals to obtain authorizations and patient information
  • Coordinate with physician offices, hospitals, and clinics to obtain pre-operative results, medical records, imaging, and documentation
  • Maintain accurate patient information and ensure timely completion of administrative tasks
  • Work closely with providers and clinical staff to support efficient patient care operations
