About The Position

Medical Secretary – Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) 1 FTE to March 31, 2028 Thunder Bay Site One of a network of provincial community health centres, the NorWest Community Health Centres is a community based, non-profit organization funded by Ontario Health, emphasizing access to primary health care and prevention programs and services. We are currently seeking a 1.0 FTE contract Medical Secretary, who as a valuable member of the Community Health Centre team will provide reception and medical secretary support to the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) clinic, an interdisciplinary addiction clinic serving people who use substances and who face significant barriers to care. This role involves answering phones, greeting clients and visitors, triaging referrals, and booking appointments across multiple clinic sites. Responsibilities include maintaining electronic medical records, managing referrals, e-faxes, and providing general administrative support while ensuring confidentiality. The position requires delivering friendly, person-centred service using a trauma-informed and harm-reduction approach. The position has a competitive salary, the Health Care of Ontario’s Pension Plan and an excellent group health benefits package. The salary range for this position is from $41,956 to $50,551 per year. We do not use AI to screen resumes.

Requirements

  • Secondary school diploma, Medical Secretary certificate or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Three to five year’s office experience preferably in a health setting
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, organized, a self-starter, and possess excellent problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, perform well under stress, and deal with multiple demands and unpredictable delays.
  • Demonstrates a professional and friendly manner and has experience dealing with the public in a way that is mature, sensitive and helpful both over the telephone and in person.
  • Strong understanding and alignment with the concepts of trauma-informed care and culturally safer care.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully with people who face significant barriers to care, including unhoused and underhoused, current and past substance use, living with mental health challenges and diagnoses, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, etc.
  • Drivers license and access to a vehicle is required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a community-based primary health care setting, addictions, homelessness, and/or mental health is an asset.
