About The Position

The Medical Secretary performs clerical and receptionist duties, including answering phone calls, registering patients, and scheduling appointments. They handle various clerical and support functions related to record completion and processing, including electronic filing and routine information release. The role involves logging patient demographic information into EMR, obtaining necessary signatures for treatment, billing, and consent, and conducting pre-visit planning in accordance with practice workflow and goals as a patient-centered medical home. The Medical Secretary will also introduce new patients to the medical home model and inform them on how to access their care team during and after office hours.

Requirements

  • High School graduate
  • 1 year prior experience in an office setting
  • Above average spelling skills
  • Above average typing skills
  • Computer knowledge
  • Ability to organize work and meet realistic work load
  • Previous experience in clerical or receptionist position required
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and pleasantly to staff, physicians, patients and visitors.
  • Able to perform under pressure (relate to patients, hospital staff, physicians and visitors)

Nice To Haves

  • Medical terminology course preferred
  • 1 year prior experience in a medical office.
  • Experience with coding procedures is desired.
  • Customer relations, hospital experience or satisfactory completion of related medical practice training program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical and receptionist duties.

  • Perform various clerical/support functions in conjunction with the completion and processing of all types of records including electronic filing and routine release of information requests.
  • Log patient demographic information into EMR per designated workflow.
  • Obtain necessary treatment, billing and consent signatures.
  • Conduct aspects of pre-visit planning and conductive work in accordance with practice workflow and goals as a patient centered medical home.
  • Introduce new patients to the medical home model.
  • Encourage and inform patients how to access their care team during and after office hours.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
