About The Position

Are you considering a career in medicine? Being a medical scribe is a great way to familiarize yourself with patient care by shadowing physicians. You will learn medical language, teamwork, and how trust is developed as well as how to document medical encounters. Most importantly you will interact with patients and learn how to focus on the patient and their concerns. POSITION SUMMARY: Provides support services to providers and nursing staff in order to facilitate documentation and patient flow by transcribing and entering accurate and complete medical information to the patient record.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Medical terminology courses
  • College course work (preferably a bachelor degree in science).
  • Type 50 WMP.
  • Current CPR certification
  • Current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details
  • Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications
  • Keyboarding/typing at least 50 WPM
  • Ability to accurately record information in EHR
  • Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow
  • Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations (knowledge of HIPAA laws) for patients and families
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively
  • Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures
  • Skill with tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions
  • Technical skill and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Electronic Health Record and Practice Management system, and utilization of other standard software programs and applications preferred
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image
  • Ability to plan, prioritizes, and complete delegated tasks
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others
  • Frequent standing required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry laptop computer.
  • Occasional stress from workload.
  • Requires adequate hearing & vision.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds of supplies.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical terminology: 1 year (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Accompany provider into the patient examination room in order to transcribe history and physical exam and document accurately the provider's encounter with the patient and provider present.
  • List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions, prescriptions patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications as dictated by the provider.
  • Prepare patient information and chart preparation for upcoming clinics/visits.
  • Scrubbing clinic schedules.
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  • Adhere to employer work practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, staff, and management.
  • Incorporates superior patient experience and service excellence into all patient and customer interactions.
  • Exercises utmost diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients and co-workers.
  • Effectively cope with typical job stress.
  • Safeguard the privacy of patient health information (HIPAA)
  • Assist with other duties and responsibilities during slow transcription time or low patient census times.
  • During slow times, check in with manager.
  • Light Medical Records duties (faxing, scanning, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Assist with obtaining supporting records as needed.
