About The Position

The Medical Scribe verifies patient information by interviewing the patient, recording medical history, and documenting the purpose of the visit. They prepare patients for examination and document the entire visit. This role requires maintaining patient privacy and adhering to HIPAA guidelines at all times. Essential functions include using computer applications for data entry, documenting patient demographics, records, and notes, managing the office telephone system, scheduling appointments, updating and filing patient records, and transmitting prescription requests as directed by the provider.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-year prior medical scribe experience, preferably in Plastic Surgery or a closely aligned specialty with a genuine interest to learn
  • Ability to travel between locations if necessary and as applies to specific provider.
  • Polished presence appropriate to a medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining patient privacy and adhering to HIPAA guidelines at all times
  • Using computer applications- performing any data entry tasks to document patient demographics, records or note to file.
  • Documenting patients' medical information, including medical history and review of symptoms within EHR of patients’ chart.
  • Managing office telephone system, including answering calls and returning messages
  • Scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments when necessary.
  • Updating and filing patient medical records and or any patient correspondence
  • Transmitting prescription or refill requests as directed by provider
  • Welcoming and greeting patients
  • Maintaining HIPAA and performing OSHA standards at all times
  • Taking medical histories, recording patients' chief complaint and documenting provider evaluation notes of visit in patients’ chart
  • Monitoring and documenting patient symptoms for physicians' review during clinical exams
  • Preparing patients for examination-Prepping exam rooms for clinical, surgical or cosmetic procedures and assisting providers during exams with patient care
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients
  • Ensuring all consents are signed by the patient prior to provider performing any type of procedure
  • Providing compassionate patient support and care, attention and assistance during office visits.
  • Being a patient Liaison.
