About The Position

Under the direction of a Physician, Clinical Manager, Registered Nurse, or Program Director, the Medical Scribe supports physician transcription and provides clerical support during patient care. Under physician supervision, the role records physician dictation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in real time and requires strong customer service, verbal communication, and comprehension skills. The position also participates in maintaining a safe patient environment. The role includes documenting patient encounters and physician orders, reviewing medical records and results, and performing other clerical duties that support provider productivity and clinic workflow. The position is PRN and on site.

Requirements

At least 1 year of medical terminology experience.
At least 1 year of medical scribe or medical transcription experience.
Must complete and pass required medical screening, background checking, and drug test.
Strong customer service, verbal communication, and comprehensive skills.

Responsibilities

Accompany the physician into patient examination rooms and transcribe the history, physical examination, assessment, and plan.
Accurately document the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present.
Record diagnoses, symptoms, follow-up instructions, and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.
Transcribe patient orders, including laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.
Document procedures and hyperbaric treatments performed by the physician.
Review past medical histories, previous visit encounters, prior results, and studies.
Understand and apply basic ICD-10 documentation requirements.
Comply with hospital and medical facility policies, including HIPAA and Joint Commission requirements.
Perform other assigned clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow.
Participate in maintaining a safe patient environment.
