The primary goal of a Scribe is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the Physician they are working for. This employee allows the Doctor to focus on what is most important, the patient. The Ophthalmic Scribe will accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the Physician. This role is responsible for the operation of the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) of patients and must demonstrate a basic understanding of examination and procedure codes (ICD-9 codes) when inputting into the EMR system. The scribe ensures that accurate procedure coding/charges for all procedures/drugs for all patients and correct diagnosis codes are used. They anticipate Physician needs to facilitate the flow of the clinic, open and close exam rooms as needed, and help with testing and keep rooms filled to maintain flow of the clinic. The scribe must be discreet, tactful, and modest in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care. Good judgment, organization ability, attention to detail, and ability to be self-motivated are especially important. The position requires willingness to travel between offices and performs other duties as assigned.
