About The Position

The Medical Screener - Reception Technician is responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process. This role involves assisting qualified donors through the screening process in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which includes assessing health history, answering medical questions, referring donors to medical staff when necessary, and performing health screening procedures like taking blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature. The technician also performs finger sticks to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein level testing. Upon completion of training, they may educate new donors about therapeutic products made from donated plasma, the screening process, health tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, and nutrition. They ensure all donor questions are answered accurately and professionally. The role may also involve registering applicant and transfer donors, answering telephones, and maintaining awareness of any donor reactions during or after the pheresis process, alerting appropriate staff. Accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system is crucial. The position requires understanding hyper immune programs, maintaining a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient supplies, and adhering to Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies. Confidentiality of all information is paramount. Bilingual skills may be required, and other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to perform basic math calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Alerting Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
  • Accurately recording donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understanding policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs.
  • Maintaining a clean and efficient work environment and ensuring sufficient supplies.
  • Following all HSE and OSHA policies and procedures and promoting safety.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
