About The Position

Bayer is seeking a field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to serve as a credible scientific partner to healthcare professionals across the North Central U.S. territory of Illinois, Minnesota, and Michigan. The role focuses on Molecular Imaging and Cardiac Amyloidosis, with compliant scientific engagement across the multidisciplinary amyloidosis ecosystem, including cardiology, hematology/oncology, nuclear medicine, radiology, and integrated amyloidosis centers. Candidates must reside within the territory. The MSL builds peer-to-peer relationships, generates actionable field insights, advances understanding of systemic and cardiac amyloidosis and diagnostic pathways, supports evidence-generation activities, and contributes to launch-related field capability and institutional readiness. This is a field execution role centered on scientific engagement, insight generation, and cross-functional follow-through. The role supports disease-state education, scientific exchange, research and evidence-generation work, priority-center readiness, and internal scientific training. The MSL collaborates with internal partners while observing role boundaries: the MSL is accountable for scientific exchange and medical strategy, while technical protocol implementation and scanner-specific execution remain with designated technical roles. Activities must comply with Bayer policies, SOPs, work instructions, FDA requirements, OIG guidance, the PhRMA Code, and applicable laws. Travel is 50–70%, including overnight travel and occasional weekends.

Requirements

  • Advanced clinical or scientific degree, such as PharmD, PhD, MD, DO, DNP, MSN, NP, or PA.
  • Field-based MSL experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Ability to critically evaluate and communicate complex clinical and scientific data to expert audiences.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. compliance requirements governing scientific exchange.
  • Strong presentation, relationship-building, territory-management, insight-generation, and self-management skills in a remote field role.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Residence within the assigned territory near a major airport.
  • Ability to travel 50–70%, including overnight travel and occasional weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Field-medical or clinical experience in cardiology, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, cardiac imaging, or cardiac amyloidosis.
  • At least 3 years of field-based MSL industry experience.
  • Established scientific relationships with relevant specialists and multidisciplinary amyloidosis teams in the territory.
  • Experience supporting a pre-launch or launch-stage product, particularly a first-in-class, diagnostic, molecular-imaging, or radiopharmaceutical product.
  • Working knowledge of systemic amyloidosis, including ATTR and AL pathways, and the roles of imaging, laboratory assessment, biopsy, specialist referral, and multidisciplinary care.
  • Experience gathering actionable insights, mapping diagnostic or referral pathways, and supporting evidence-generation or investigator-initiated research programs.
  • Experience collaborating across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, HEOR/RWE, Market Access, Regulatory, Medical Information, and technical field functions.
  • Familiarity with CRM and insight-capture platforms such as Veeva.
  • Scientific credibility and curiosity across cardiovascular medicine, amyloidosis, and molecular imaging.
  • Ability to translate field conversations into actionable implications for Medical strategy and launch preparedness.
  • Ability to connect stakeholders across referral, diagnosis, imaging, and care delivery while maintaining scientific depth.
  • Reliable territory planning, documentation, follow-up, and workstream execution.
  • Integrity and sound judgment in a regulated, pre-launch environment.
  • Adaptability, ownership, and collaboration in a remote, rapidly evolving field role.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and maintain compliant, high-value scientific relationships with relevant healthcare professionals and institutional stakeholders.
  • Conduct balanced, peer-to-peer scientific exchange on systemic and cardiac amyloidosis, diagnostic pathways, clinical evidence, and investigational data.
  • Deliver scientific presentations and disease-state education using approved resources.
  • Execute a territory engagement plan focused on relationship depth, multidisciplinary institutional reach, and meaningful follow-up.
  • Gather, document, and communicate insights on diagnostic and referral pathways, evidence gaps, educational needs, operational readiness, access themes, and barriers to adoption.
  • Translate field observations into actionable insights for Medical strategy, educational planning, evidence priorities, launch preparedness, and cross-functional action.
  • Map diagnostic pathways and key decision points at priority institutions, including stakeholder roles.
  • Use approved systems to document engagements, insights, follow-up, and territory-plan progress.
  • Advance scientific understanding of systemic and cardiac amyloidosis and unmet needs related to underdiagnosis, delayed diagnosis, and complex referral pathways.
  • Identify institution-specific educational needs and support approved disease-state initiatives, advisory boards, congress activities, and other Medical Affairs programs.
  • Engage multidisciplinary stakeholders to understand patient pathways from suspicion and referral through imaging, diagnosis, and follow-up.
  • Support Bayer-sponsored research activities, including investigator and site engagement, site identification, and scientific follow-up, as appropriate.
  • Identify and triage investigator-initiated research concepts and evidence gaps through established Medical Affairs processes.
  • Contribute to assigned evidence-generation, publication, congress, medical-resource, and advisory-board workstreams.
  • Assess priority-center readiness and identify gaps in referral pathways, scientific understanding, readers, technologists, workflow, or infrastructure.
  • Route readiness gaps to accountable functions and monitor follow-up through approved processes.
  • Collaborate with Molecular Imaging Specialists and other authorized partners while maintaining clear role boundaries.
  • Collaborate with Medical Information, Medical Communications, HEOR/RWE, Commercial, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, and other partners in support of Medical Affairs objectives.
