The US Medical Science Liaison, Automated Identification and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Solutions (IDAST) serves as a field-based scientific expert supporting Waters Advanced Diagnostics’ portfolio of automated organism identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and resistance-related diagnostic solutions. This role is responsible for leading scientific exchange with key external stakeholders, supporting Medical Affairs initiatives, and helping translate IDAST data into clinically meaningful insights for clinical microbiology laboratories, antimicrobial stewardship programs, infectious disease clinicians, pharmacists, and health-system decision-makers. Waters positions ID/AST as an integrated solution focused on rapid identification, susceptibility testing, and resistance-related insights, distinct from the broader clinical microbiology portfolio of specimen collection, culture media, and manual microbiology products. A key differentiator of this role is the ability to connect IDAST results to clinical interpretation, antimicrobial stewardship, resistance-informed decision-making, diagnostic stewardship, and implementation within real-world hospital and laboratory workflows. The greatest value of IDAST is achieved not only through accurate organism identification and susceptibility results, but through how those results are interpreted, communicated, and incorporated into multidisciplinary care decisions. Waters ID/AST solutions focus on timely and accurate identification/susceptibility results to support optimized therapy, antimicrobial stewardship, and action on resistance-related information.
