About The Position

The Renal Medical Science Liaison is a field-based professional who provides scientific, clinical, and therapeutic-area support for AstraZeneca’s renal marketed products, new indications, and compounds in development. The role supports the BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit’s work to address unmet patient needs in renal disease and improve patient outcomes through scientific exchange and appropriate use of therapies. The MSL engages with key opinion leaders, key decision makers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and other customers in alignment with Medical Affairs, Scientific Affairs, Clinical Development, and Therapeutic Brand Team objectives. The position identifies clinical study investigators, gathers insights about barriers and opportunities in disease management, responds to scientific inquiries, and provides balanced clinical information to internal and external stakeholders. The role also includes maintaining expertise in disease-state management, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape; providing clinical support and data presentations regionally and nationally; managing field medical and therapeutic-area projects; and supporting training and mentorship. The position follows internal processes and applicable regulatory and compliance requirements. Travel is 50–70%, varying by geography.

Requirements

Advanced clinical or science degree required, such as MD, PharmD, PhD, NP, or PA-C; a BSN with extensive clinical experience may be considered.
At least 3 years of experience in a clinical or commercial setting.
Thorough understanding of the healthcare system landscape.
Established networks and clinical experience within the therapeutic-area focus.
Experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Demonstrated expertise discussing scientific content and context with multiple audiences.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership capabilities.
Excellent project management ability.
Thorough knowledge of the regulatory environment.
Ability to travel 50–70%, depending on geography.

Nice To Haves

Medical Science Liaison experience is preferred.
Established experience delivering quality improvement initiatives.
At least 2 years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison in the pharmaceutical industry.
Established track record of basic or clinical research.

Responsibilities

Provide medical and scientific support for renal marketed products, new indications, and compounds in development.
Engage in scientific exchange with key opinion leaders, key decision makers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and other targeted customers in line with organizational objectives.
Develop peer-level relationships with key decision makers, healthcare professionals, and researchers.
Identify pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing study investigators in alignment with Clinical Development activities and Therapeutic Brand Team initiatives.
Uncover barriers to optimal disease management and identify opportunities and readiness to improve patient outcomes.
Provide actionable information to internal stakeholders that supports the value and appropriate use of AstraZeneca products.
Respond to customer inquiries with focused, balanced clinical and scientific information supporting appropriate product and service use.
Deliver clinical and scientific information that clinically differentiates AstraZeneca products.
Follow internal standard processes and meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
Maintain expertise in disease-state management, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape.
Provide clinical support and deliver data presentations regionally and nationally.
Lead and manage projects within the field medical team and therapeutic area.
Support training and mentoring in the therapeutic area and offer performance guidelines and mentorship to others.
