About The Position

The EVERSANA Medical Science Liaison/Senior Medical Science Liaison functions as a highly trained, field-based, scientific expert in ophthalmology, particularly retinal disease, who engages health care professionals and leaders in clinical, scientific, value-based care and research-based peer to peer scientific exchange around our client’s product. Following regulatory and corporate guidelines, they will facilitate and build scientific relationships and collaborations with scientific communities. This position interacts with local, regional, and national Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and health care practitioners (HCPs), as well as professional societies and organizations. The MSL will need to be fully engaged with pertinent professional societies, as well as other value-based institutions and associations including ophthalmology and optometry clinics and retinal specialists that are involved with the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). The MSL will be the field based scientific expert regarding our client’s product.

Requirements

  • An advanced degree (e.g., OD, PharmD, PhD, MD, MSN, DNP, or NP/PA) is required.
  • MSL: A minimum of 2 years previous MSL experience necessary with a minimum of 1 year in ophthalmology with working knowledge of retinal disorders.
  • Sr. MSL: A minimum of 5 years of pharma experience and 3 years of rare disease, ophthalmology experience.
  • Prior product launch experience desired.
  • Exhibits the highest level of scientific, business, and clinical acumen with excellent communication and networking skills.
  • The ability to interpret and present scientific data to engage KOLs.
  • Working knowledge of standards of care for prostate cancer required.
  • Previous experience sharing scientific content with payer systems is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Ophthalmology screening and wellness programs is strongly desired.
  • Ability to present complex scientific and value and evidence data to payors and/or formulary committees is required.
  • Working knowledge of institutions and clinics in selected geographies is expected.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently (70%) with overnight stays (e.g., KOL meetings, site locations, internal meetings, medical meetings and congresses, training).

Responsibilities

  • Function as the primary medical point of contact in geographic area.
  • Maintain clinical and scientific expertise in ophthalmology with specific focus in standards of care related to the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), commonly known as wet AMD.
  • Engage in well informed, compliant, robust, and accurate scientific peer exchange around the treatment of wet AMD, and the science our client’s product.
  • Engage in medical & scientific exchange with the medical/scientific community including advisory boards.
  • Conduct pre-launch KOL profiling efforts to enhance depth of product/disease/scientific knowledge.
  • Facilitate top account/institution profiling efforts to enhance understanding of patient care pathways, including treatment protocol development and novel therapies.
  • Develop and track Strategic KOL engagement plans - identify, develop, and maintain long-term collaborative relationships with KOLs within assigned region.
  • Support health systems, population health leaders, and medical quality professionals by offering clinical, public health, medical quality, and other scientific information to help guide medical decisions.
  • Deliver clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare providers, health systems, and medical group leadership, as well as community/advocacy groups.
  • Build relationships and assist in the development of key opinion leaders.
  • Build relationships with key decision makers in health systems, medical groups, healthcare provider offices, state departments of public health, advocacy organizations, and national/regional professional societies.
  • Provide insight into market trends and clinical intelligence.
  • Collaborates with the Medical Affairs leadership in the development of key opinion leaders.
  • Collaborate with clients and thought leaders on a national, regional, and local level to develop clinical insights that support medical research associated with new and existing products.
  • Supports implementation team as needed.
  • Identify, attend and report on local/regional educational events such as national symposia and scientific/clinical meetings and CME events.
  • Manage time and travel expense budget for scientific exchange and clinical education activities within dedicated regions.

  • Work collaboratively and compliantly with commercial colleagues to assure product strategic imperatives are represented cross functionally in account engagement.
  • Respond to and document unsolicited requests for information on clinical initiatives.
  • May serve as a resource for investigator-initiated trial (IIT) proposals.
  • Provide internal teams with feedback and insights from interactions with KOLs.
  • Represent our client at medical meetings through Medical Affairs Scientific Booth coverage and other related activities.
  • Attend congresses as appropriate and develop meaningful internal reports of the congresses covered.
  • Adhere to corporate SOPs and ensure vigilant compliance with relevant legal and regulatory guidelines governing scientific interactions with physicians and healthcare professionals across all activities, including those related to clinical trials, scientific interactions with internal and external groups, and responses to unsolicited requests for medical/scientific information.
  • Consistently demonstrate a high standard of excellence in the management of assigned territory while also contributing to the success of colleagues and the MSL team.
  • Willingness to contribute to the achievement of organizational goals beyond the borders of a geographic territory.
  • Be solidly versed in the clinical data such that the full range of innovative science, clinical, outcome, economic and value aspects of our client’s products can be appreciated by the healthcare practitioner, formulary member or payer.
  • Provide medical support, clinical input, and/or training for internal teams as requested.
