As a Renal Medical Science Liaison, you will be instrumental in leveraging our scientific expertise to positively impact patients' lives. The BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit (BBU) develops and implements impactful therapeutic area and product strategies aimed at addressing global unmet patient needs. We are dedicated to advancing medical practice and enhancing patient quality of life through innovative therapies. The BBU integrates commercial, market access, medical, digital, and corporate functions to drive scientific development and commercial excellence in respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, and diabetes diseases. Your role as a Renal Medical Science Liaison is crucial in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive difference in patients' lives. You will be a key contributor to evolving how AstraZeneca influences practice change through technological advancements, focusing on high disease burden and areas with low guideline-based medical care. Our mission is to collaborate with healthcare practitioners to decrease acute episodes, disease complications, hospital admissions, and premature mortality. Through science, innovation, growth, and leadership, with a strong emphasis on people and sustainability, we genuinely prioritize patients.

Requirements

  • Advanced Clinical/Science Degree required (e.g. MD, PharmD, PhD, NP, PA-C, etc. – BSN with extensive clinical experience may be considered)
  • 3 years experience in a Clinical or Commercial setting
  • Thorough understanding of healthcare system landscape
  • Established networks and clinical experience within TA area focus
  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated expertise in discussing scientific content and context to multiple audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities
  • Excellent project management ability
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory environment
  • Ability to travel 50-70% (percentage varies with geography)

Nice To Haves

  • MSL experience is preferred
  • Established experience delivering quality improvement initiatives
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Medical Science Liaison in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Established track record of basic or clinical research

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical and scientific support for AstraZeneca's renal marketed products, new indications, and compounds in development.
  • Engage in scientific exchange with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Key Decision Makers (KDMs), and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) aligned with Medical Affairs and Therapeutic Brand Team objectives.
  • Identify and engage key customers with scientific expertise and business knowledge of AstraZeneca's products and development pipeline.
  • Develop peer-level relationships with KDMs, HCPs, and researchers consistent with Scientific and Medical Affairs strategy.
  • Identify pre-clinical, clinical, and post-marketing study investigators in alignment with Clinical Development goals and Therapeutic Brand Team initiatives.
  • Uncover barriers to optimal disease management and identify opportunities for improving patient outcomes.
  • Provide actionable information to internal stakeholders that enhances the value and appropriate use of AstraZeneca’s products.
  • Respond to customer inquiries with focused and balanced clinical and scientific information supporting appropriate product and service use.
  • Deliver clinical and scientific information that clinically differentiates AstraZeneca’s products.
  • Follow internal standard processes and meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain expertise in disease state management, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape.
  • Provide clinical support and deliver data presentations regionally and nationally.
  • Lead and manage projects within the field medical team and therapeutic area.
  • Provide training and mentorship in the therapeutic area.
  • Offer performance guidelines and mentorship to others.
