About The Position

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based clinician scientist role, acting as an extension of the Medical Affairs organization. MSLs build relationships with medical thought leaders, provide medical information through scientific exchange, and offer clinical/scientific support for SERB Pharmaceuticals. This specific position reports to the MSL Team Lead-Rare Emergency Medicine and will be involved in pre-launch and launch activities, as well as providing medical support for approved products. The role covers a broad territory in the Northeast and requires residency near or access to a major airport.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD or equivalent) or License (RN, NP, CNP, PA or equivalent) with a minimum of a master’s degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in clinical practice
  • Demonstrated scientific and medical acumen preferably with a publication and teaching record
  • Clinical acumen; preferably having clinical patient care experience, or healthcare experience working in a complex healthcare delivery system
  • Demonstrated ability to master new therapeutic areas
  • Outstanding interpersonal consultative and communication skills (verbal and writing)
  • Excellent presentation/platform skills
  • Sincere desire for self-motivated continuous scientific, technical and medical learning
  • Strong teaching acumen with focus on practical learning
  • Demonstrated ability to develop trust and relationships with opinion leaders in disease states of interest
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload, multi-task and manage a diverse mix of responsibilities and challenges
  • Ability to identify and creatively address problems in a systematic way
  • Highly self-motivated and ability to work autonomously
  • Willingness and ability to work within and outside of traditional business hours, both as part of a team and independently
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare providers within the therapeutic area.
  • Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings.
  • Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals (HCPs) through on-site presentations, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings.
  • Provide scientific support for medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.
  • Communicate emerging data and clinical experience with products through scientific exchange, discussing benefits and risks objectively.
  • Acquire a broad understanding of local and national protocols, standards of clinical practice, and disease management trends.
  • Engage in regular professional self-development within one's area of expertise.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pertinent therapeutic areas, research, therapeutic issues, trends, and the competitive landscape.
  • Develop and execute territory plans aligned with Medical Affairs strategy to improve patient outcomes through HCP engagement, scientific discussions, and clinical education.
  • Provide support for data generation activities (company-sponsored studies, collaboration studies, ISS).
  • Contribute to the development of the US Medical Plan and provide input into local strategies and tactics.
  • Manage relevant budgets to enable execution of Medical Plan tactics.
  • Interact with HCPs as a scientific resource to support activities aligned with the Medical Plan, including advisory boards, speaker development, and clinical trials.
  • Adhere to and report on assigned performance metrics/KPIs.
  • Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from KOLs to appropriate departments.
  • Ensure compliance with SERB SOPs, Compliance, Legal, Finance, and Regulatory programs.
  • Ensure accounting of personal travel finances and reporting of external spend.
  • Enhance SERB Pharmaceuticals’ image as an advocate of medical advancement through scientific exchange with healthcare providers.
  • Document and forward reports of adverse events and product complaints according to SERB’s policy.
  • Behave ethically and with integrity at all times.
  • Prepare timely reporting according to company needs.
