About The Position

Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects on the range of fundamental questions on transmission of infectious disease and the establishment of reproductive isolation during species divergence. They will perform work independently and are responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (four (4) years) of job-related experience and college education
  • Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and conduct laboratory experiments
  • Assist with the analysis and interpretation of research data
  • Maintain laboratory records, including documentation of experiments, protocols, equipment, inventory, and purchasing activities
  • Support laboratory operations by maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and functionality of facilities and equipment
  • Coordinate the procurement, inventory, and distribution of laboratory supplies and consumables with PI approval
  • Safeguard research materials and collaborate with appropriate personnel to address equipment issues and laboratory disruptions
  • Provide guidance and support to research personnel and students
  • Assist with other research-related activities as assigned
  • Ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and laboratory equipment
  • Ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies
  • Developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques
  • Instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel
