General Purpose: This position involves managing medical records and providing support to both internal and external customers. Key responsibilities include processing medical record requests, handling faxes, indexing documents, and answering inquiries via phone. The role ensures the secure release of medical information in compliance with state and federal laws and requires minimal supervision. The employee will also manage the daily indexing of records and fax processing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to interact positively and build rapport with patients, coworkers, and external contacts.
  • Ability to work independently in a manner that ensures accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to respond to the needs and concerns of STRIDE’s patient population.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills including ability to defuse upset customers.
  • Proficiency in a variety of software including but not limited to the internet, Microsoft 365 applications, and Electronic Health Records (EHR).

Responsibilities

  • Processes records for appointments, messages, lab reports and dictations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for the consistent, accurate disclosure of authorized protected health information while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with state, federal, HIPAA, and ACA rules regarding release of information and privacy of patient records
  • Reviews authorizations requested for patient information to ensure all required elements are complete.
  • Confirms regulatory requirements are met and the requesting party authorizing the disclosure is appropriate.
  • Performs timely communication to requestor if authorization is not valid, unable to process as received.
  • Ensures the integrity of records released.
  • Responsible for the human, financial, and material resources as well as data and information entrusted to us.
  • Enhances the effectiveness; efficiency and productivity of the department by contributing to, and participating in, departmental performance improvement goals.
  • Handle daily incoming faxes and distribute them accordingly for processing
  • Index all documentation to the appropriate patient chart
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
