Medical Records Tech II - (Full-Time)

About The Position

The Health Information Technician II is responsible for various aspects of patient medical records content. This is a full-time, temporary position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, for 40 hours per week. The role involves greeting patients, handling their requests, screening calls, releasing general information, and providing health information to authorized requesters. The technician will also triage, attach, and assign incoming faxes within the EMR, scan paper correspondence, and respond to medical information requests in emergencies.

Requirements

  • Advanced clerical training including typing, basic filing, office procedures and medical record terminology and practice.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic medical record systems.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a medical records department.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in clerical duties sufficient for individual development to the level of independent functioning.
  • Computer literate.
  • Proficient in the use of electronic medical record (EMR).

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of eClinicalWorks & EPIC preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese in addition to English preferred.
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese in addition to English.
  • Interest and commitment in working with low-income and minority people.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, determining the appropriate routing of patient requests.
  • Screens incoming calls, releasing general information concerning services and privacy policies, photocopying charges, turn-around time, and authorization requirements.
  • Provides health information to properly authorized telephone requests from patients, insurance companies, and attorneys.
  • Triages, attaches, and assigns incoming faxes accurately within EMR.
  • Accurately scans incoming paper correspondence to Patient Documentation section of EMR in accordance with procedures.
  • Responds to requests for medical information in a medical emergency.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
