About The Position

Western NC Community Health Services (WNCCHS) is seeking a full-time Medical Records Filing Clerk to join their growing team. This role is responsible for organizing, maintaining, and retrieving patient health information, ensuring accuracy and security in compliance with privacy regulations. The clerk will scan, index, file, and update paper and electronic health records (EHR), supporting healthcare staff by ensuring records are accessible for treatment and billing. This position is ideal for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and good at time management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Current, unencunmbered Driver’s License
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks with attention to detail.
  • Compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and employer policies ensuring patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to interact in a friendly, professional manner with a wide range of staff, physicians, and public.
  • Demonstrated competence with incoming correspondence.
  • Adept at utilizing technology.
  • Previous experience navigating electronic health records.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar medical office role is often preferred.
  • Experience with Epic (EHR), highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, maintain, and retrieve patient health information.
  • Ensure accuracy and security of patient health information in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Scan, index, file, and update paper and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Support healthcare staff by ensuring records are accessible for treatment and billing.
  • Manage and respond to incoming correspondence, phone calls, emails, and EHR messages in a timely and professional manner.
