Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification or degree in health information technology is REQUIRED
  • Minimum of one year previous experience in a healthcare or medical clinic setting is REQUIRED
  • Proficiency with EHR systems, medical record software, word processing and general computer technology
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, abbreviations, and documentation standards such as DRG, CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10
  • Strong organizational skills and accuracy in data entry and record management
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute a variety of tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with staff, patients, and external agencies.
  • Ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve issues creatively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and maintain patient records in both electronic and paper formats, ensuring they are up-to-date and complete.
  • Accurately input patient information, including demographics, medical histories, treatment details, and test results into electronic health record (HER) systems.
  • Retrieve medical records for healthcare providers, patients, or authorized personnel as needed.
  • Ensure all records comply with HIPPA and other federal regulations, maintaining confidentiality and security of patient information.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information at all times.
  • Coordinate with medical staff, insurance companies, and patients to clarify information, obtain additional documentation, or respond to inquiries.
  • Monitor and execute requests in work queue that result in processing requests for information.
  • Audit records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with institutional policies.
  • Support audits by providing requested documentation promptly and accurately.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, processing records requests, scanning documents, and other duties as assigned/required by the role.
