About The Position

The Medical Receptionist is responsible for greeting patients and visitors, managing appointment schedules, handling patient check-ins and registration, verifying insurance and demographics, collecting payments, and maintaining a neat work area. This role also involves communicating with patients and providers, documenting information in the EMR and medical billing system, and adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in greeting patients and visitors courteously.
  • Ability to check in patients and update EMR.
  • Skill in entering patient information into medical billing systems.
  • Experience in maintaining appointment schedules and following scheduling policies.
  • Effective communication with patients and providers.
  • Capability to schedule, cancel, and reschedule appointments.
  • Experience in reminding patients of appointments and tracking missed appointments.
  • Ability to answer multiple telephones and document messages accurately.
  • Skill in forwarding telephone calls and following up on return calls.
  • Proficiency in patient registration and documentation.
  • Experience in insurance verification and demographic verification.
  • Ability to collect co-pays and cash, and process credit card authorizations.
  • Skill in entering charges, payments, and balancing daily accounts.
  • Ability to maintain a neat and orderly work area and lobby.
  • Willingness to attend required meetings.
  • Adherence to HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Checks in patients, verifies and updates necessary information in the patients EMR.
  • Enters all of patient information into the medical billing system.
  • Maintains appointment schedule and follows office scheduling policies.
  • Communicates with patient and providers.
  • Scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling patient appointments.
  • Reminding patients of upcoming appointments and tracking missed appointments.
  • Answering multiple telephones and accurately documenting messages.
  • Forwarding telephone calls appropriately and following up on return calls.
  • Checking-in patients and properly documenting registration.
  • Insurance verification and verification of patient's demographics.
  • Collecting co-pays and cash from patients, getting authorization on credit cards.
  • Entering charges, payments, and balancing the day in the computer.
  • Maintains work area and lobby in neat and orderly manner.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Practice and adhere to HIPPA regulations.
