The Medical Receptionist is responsible for managing the complete patient check-in and registration process, which includes accurately entering patient information, verifying insurance eligibility, collecting and posting copayments, and preparing electronic encounters for billing and clinical use. This role also involves confirming referring physicians, obtaining meaningful use criteria, and enrolling patients in the Patient Portal, including handling necessary paperwork. Additionally, the position oversees the check-out and discharge process, providing patients with next appointments, offering patient education, and processing data for meaningful use. A key duty is to actively enroll patients in the practice's Patient Portal, educate them on its benefits, and assist them in utilizing it for communication. Administrative tasks include providing daily schedules to clinical staff, scanning and filing patient documents, managing messages from the Call Center Triage, updating telephone call templates, answering incoming calls, and documenting all patient interactions and communications. The Medical Receptionist also assists medical personnel with returning messages, ensures referring physician information is updated, handles mail and fax requests, greets and directs visitors, manages no-show appointments and scheduling conflicts, and forwards precertification and insurance verification requests. Maintaining a tidy work area and waiting rooms, controlling information release, and managing office supplies are also part of the role. Regular travel to satellite locations is required.
