About The Position

At American Family Care (AFC), a leading urgent care provider with over 200 clinics nationwide, we are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to be the first point of contact for patients. This role is crucial for our patient-first approach and requires exceptional skills in insurance verification and revenue recovery. The ideal candidate will excel at resolving insurance and billing challenges while maintaining high patient satisfaction, directly impacting both the patient experience and the clinic's financial health.

Requirements

  • Experience with insurance verification and medical billing (non-negotiable).
  • Ability to explain complex insurance concepts to patients with empathy and clarity.
  • Obsessive attention to detail.
  • Experience as a Medical Receptionist, Administrative Assistant, or in Customer Service in a medical office setting.
  • Tech-savvy with medical billing software and EMR systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude even when dealing with challenging financial conversations.
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within defined onboarding period.

Nice To Haves

  • X-Ray Tech, Medical Assistant or related certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Master Insurance Verification: Meticulously verify coverage BEFORE services are provided, prevent claim denials, and maximize revenue capture.
  • Excel at Financial Counseling: Confidently explain costs, billing processes, and insurance complexities to patients in a way they understand.
  • Solve Billing Problems: Proactively identify and resolve insurance discrepancies and billing issues before they impact revenue.
  • Drive Patient Satisfaction: Deliver exceptional service even during difficult financial conversations - keeping patients happy while handling payment matters.
  • Be the Face of AFC: Greet patients with the warmth and professionalism that makes AFC stand out in healthcare.
  • Own the Front Desk Flow: Process payments, schedule appointments, and manage patient check-ins with lightning efficiency.
  • Protect Patient Information: Maintain organized records while strictly following HIPAA regulations.
