About The Position

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to be the face of their clinic and the first step in their patient-first approach. This role is crucial for revolutionizing how people access healthcare, acting as a revenue protection specialist and patient financial counselor. The ideal candidate will excel at resolving insurance and billing challenges while maintaining high patient satisfaction, with a specific focus on insurance verification and revenue recovery. The receptionist will be responsible for accurately verifying coverage, explaining costs clearly, and ensuring clean claims, directly impacting both patient experience and the clinic's financial health.

Requirements

  • Experience with insurance verification and medical billing (non-negotiable).
  • Ability to explain complex insurance concepts to frustrated patients with empathy and clarity.
  • Obsessively detail-oriented.
  • Experience as a Medical Receptionist, Administrative Assistant, or in any Customer Service role in a medical office setting.
  • Tech-savvy with medical billing software and EMR systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to find billing solutions that work for both patients and the clinic.
  • Maintain a positive attitude even when dealing with challenging financial conversations.
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within defined onboarding period.

Nice To Haves

  • X-Ray Tech, Medical Assistant or related certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Master Insurance Verification: Meticulously verify coverage BEFORE services are provided, prevent claim denials, and maximize revenue capture.
  • Excel at Financial Counseling: Confidently explain costs, billing processes, and insurance complexities to patients in a way they understand.
  • Solve Billing Problems: Proactively identify and resolve insurance discrepancies and billing issues before they impact revenue.
  • Drive Patient Satisfaction: Deliver exceptional service even during difficult financial conversations - keeping patients happy while handling payment matters.
  • Be the Face of AFC: Greet patients with the warmth and professionalism that makes AFC stand out in healthcare.
  • Own the Front Desk Flow: Process payments, schedule appointments, and manage patient check-ins with lightning efficiency.
  • Protect Patient Information: Maintain organized records while strictly following HIPAA regulations.
