About The Position

Perform Computed Tomography (CT) procedures in accordance with applicable legislation, clinical standards, and departmental procedures, and adhere to the standards of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO). This role involves the safe and appropriate operation of CT equipment, performing quality control, troubleshooting issues, obtaining informed consent, documenting patient information, and coordinating daily work schedules. The technologist will perform a full range of procedures adhering to radiation safety practices and maintain competency in CT examinations and equipment. They will evaluate exams for quality and accuracy, maintain records, collaborate with healthcare teams, follow infection control protocols, and evaluate patient care and satisfaction. The position also includes assisting with student education, participating in improvement projects aligned with HSN’s Strategic Plan, and engaging in education related to health and safety legislation. The role may involve representing the department on committees and performing other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Advanced Diploma in Radiography, from an accredited college.
  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the CMRITO is required.
  • Contrast Injection Course Certification is required.
  • Formal education in full body cross sectional anatomy is required.
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operating CT equipment with strong problem solving skills and ability to handle equipment related challenges.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of positioning protocols and standards, with strong attention to detail and ability to ensure high quality images.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform all CT procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of radiation safety, protocols and protection regulations.
  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information system.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated effective time management and strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload as required.
  • Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
  • Successful Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) is preferred.
  • Successful completion of CT1, CT2 and CT3 (CTIC) is preferred.
  • Recent and relevant full scope working experience in a hospital setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Computed Tomography (CT) procedures in accordance with applicable legislation, clinical standards, and departmental procedures.
  • Adhere to the standards of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO).
  • Ensure the safe and appropriate operation of CT equipment according to manufacturer guidelines, hospital policy, college certification and legislative standards.
  • Perform and record routine quality control, troubleshoot equipment and/or procedure issues and contact appropriate service providers to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Perform CT Quality Control Procedures in the department.
  • Obtain informed consent and verify patient history and information.
  • Ensure demonstrated competency in intravenous (IV) catheter access.
  • Document patient medical histories, including any relevant information about previous imaging exams, allergies or surgeries.
  • Coordinate daily work schedule, prioritize emergency and add on cases as required.
  • Perform a full range of procedures in accordance radiation safety practices, applicable legislation, clinical standards, and departmental policies and procedures to ensure personnel and patient safety.
  • Maintain competency in the CT examinations performed and equipment used within the department.
  • Evaluate exams for quality and accuracy.
  • Maintain records and documentation according to department policy and procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Follow all infection control protocols to maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with healthcare privacy laws.
  • Assist with student education, supervision and evaluations as required.
  • Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  • Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  • Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  • Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
