About The Position

The Medical Radiation Physicist position has three general functions: clinical medical physics, supervising dosimetrists, and performing administrative tasks. The role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and safe use of radiation machines and radioactive sources in Radiation Oncology, under the direction of the Lead Medical Radiation Physicists.

Requirements

Master's Degree in Medical Physics, Radiological Physics, or a closely related field.
1 Year Current radiation oncology outpatient experience.
Board certification or board eligible in Therapeutic Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physicists (must be certified within two years of hire date).
Comprehensive knowledge of radiation therapy patient care.
Critical thinking and excellent interpersonal skill, written and verbal.
Ability to manage time and staff.

Nice To Haves

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medical Physics, Radiological Physics, or a closely related field.
3 Years Current radiation oncology outpatient experience.

Responsibilities

Performing clinical medical physics tasks, including acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment.
Providing consultant function regarding patient radiation treatment planning, proposing alternatives, and discussing procedures with physicians.
Implementing new procedures and devices to improve patient care and treatment.
Consulting, advising, and providing direction for staff and physicians in patient dosimetry calculation and treatment setup.
Supervising and instructing patient treatment planning for dosimetrists in all types of radiation therapy modes and applications.
Ensuring radiation oncology department equipment requirements are maintained and updated.
Providing follow-up testing after repair and supervising field service engineers.
Performing Quality Control Measurements and initiating corrective actions.
Organizing the physics department to meet state, federal, and accreditation requirements.
Specifying dose delivered by x-ray and radioactive sources and collaborating with RT staff on calibration measurements.
Reviewing patient charts to ensure treatment consistency with physician orders.
Consulting with staff on radiation safety and protection issues.
Inspecting and implementing provisions related to California Environmental Health and Safety Regulations.
Serving as a member of the Radiation Safety Committee.
Acting as department backup representative for State DOHS inspections and regulatory compliance.
Providing continuing education lectures to technologist, dosimetrist, and allied personnel.
Assessing performance of dosimetry staff for annual employee evaluation.
Contributing to the education and training of staff dosimetrists.
Providing input for department annual budget and resource allocation.
