About The Position

This is a nonexempt position responsible for medical assistant care under the supervision of physicians, providers, and/or registered nurse(s) in various ambulatory settings. Clinical direction, oversight, and competency review are provided by medical providers and the ambulatory professional development team in coordination with office management. The role involves greeting patients and guests using AIDET to provide an excellent service experience, keeping patients informed of delays, and taking appropriate action. The position also performs administrative duties such as rooming functionality, documentation of vitals, pain, reason for visit, medication review, and medical history. Completes work in EMR in-baskets, handles telephone communication and Mychart messaging, and documents in the medical record. Obtains reports, results, and medical records. Completes insurance and/or disability forms, precertification and/or authorizations, point of care testing, transcribing orders, or order entry. May assist with bump lists, wait lists, and appropriate WQs. The role may also involve making appointments, performing patient outreach and call backs, administering vaccines, collecting specimens, and assisting with monitoring and reporting lab results. Successfully communicates with multidisciplinary team members and patients, upholding the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values, and adhering to the Code of Ethical Conduct. Maintains working knowledge of regulatory standards. Requires flexibility and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and adjust to patient volume. May be asked to work at other Ambulatory offices based on volume. Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection experience.
  • Excellent organizational, written/verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated performance of excellent customer service skills.
  • Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by NJAC(13:35-6.4) approved certifying body AND current certification from a recognized certifying board approved by NJ Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification through the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and guests utilizing AIDET and provide excellent service experience.
  • Provide patient support and keep informed of delays, taking appropriate action including offering alternatives.
  • Perform administrative duties including rooming functionality and documentation of vitals, pain, reason for visit, review of medications, social, surgical, family, and medical history.
  • Complete work in EMR in-baskets, telephone communication, Mychart messaging, and document in the medical record.
  • Obtain reports, results, and medical records.
  • Complete insurance and/or disability forms, precertification and/or authorizations, point of care testing, transcribing orders, or order entry.
  • Assist with bump lists, wait lists, and appropriate WQs.
  • Make appointments, including follow-up appointments for patients.
  • Perform and document patient outreach and call backs for messages received in pool, MyChart messaging, and confirmation calls.
  • Administer vaccines and document appropriately and in accordance with established policies.
  • Collect specimens and handle per established protocols including proper labeling and safety handling.
  • Assist physicians/providers with monitoring and reporting lab results.
  • File all reports, labs, radiology reports, and miscellaneous correspondence in EMR and attach results to appropriate orders.
  • Obtain prior authorization for medications, procedures, and testing.
  • Successfully communicate with multidisciplinary team members and patients upholding the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values and adhering to Code of Ethical conduct.
  • Maintain working knowledge of regulatory standards and sustain these standards in daily operations.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and adjust to patient volume.
  • May be asked to work at other Ambulatory offices based on volume.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
