About The Position

This job supports the medical physics group and the radiation oncology department. Under supervision, assists in the provision of radiation physics support for treatment of patients or other diseases requiring radiation therapy and performs clinical radiation oncology physics and dosimetry services. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in medical physics from a CAMPEP-accredited graduate program.
  • None. (Work Experience Required)
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Analytical skills and ability to perform treatment calculations.
  • Problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with physicians, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists regarding treatment setups and clinical problems and resolves problems, documents special physics consultation in medical record, and captures charge.
  • Assists and performs patient dose calculations and treatment plans.
  • Verifies that patient has received prescribed dose by performing electronic and paper chart QA checks of calculations and treatment plans on assigned patients under treatment every week and documents QA check in medical record.
  • Participates in QA program for radiation-producing machines by performing annual, monthly, weekly, and daily dose measurements, calibrations, and safety procedures and assists in equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Participates in QA program for machines that provide patient date (CT, PET, simulators, etc.) and that calculate dose distributions and treatment times and provides support to clinical computer systems through ongoing QA, backup, and new software installation.
  • Provides medical physics support for special procedures including brachytherapy, radiosurgery, and total body irradiation.
  • Performs patient-specific dose measurements required for determination of monitor units or verification of treatment (IMRT QA, in-vivo dosimetry, etc.), reviews and approves data taken by physics technicians, and interprets and provides written reports as necessary for in-vivo dosimetry.
  • Initials charge capture and provides documentation for the patient's medical record in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
