About The Position

The Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Physics and Engineering at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is seeking a full-time faculty medical physicist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. The successful candidate will take part in clinical, research, and teaching activities and provide clinical radiation therapy physics services for external beam, IGRT, IMRT/VMAT, SRS/SRT/SBRT, and HDR programs. The position is based at UTMB’s main campus in Galveston, Texas, with clinical support for planned UTMB satellite locations as needed; the first satellite is scheduled to open in September 2026. The Division of Physics and Engineering includes three Ph.D. physicists, two dosimetrists, and an administrative assistant. Departmental equipment includes two Varian linear accelerators (a TrueBeam and a Trilogy), Brainlab ExacTrac image guidance systems, kilovoltage cone-beam CT, MV portal imaging, MOSAIQ OIS, a Siemens SOMATOM go.Open Pro CT simulator, and an Elekta microSelectron HDR afterloader. Treatment planning systems include RaySearch RayStation, Elekta Oncentra for HDR, and Brainlab Elements for SRS/SRT. Planned clinical development projects include implementing Varian’s Aria OIS; adding Varian Eclipse HyperArc and RapidArc Dynamic treatment planning; implementing the Sun Nuclear SunCHECK QA platform and other QA hardware and software; and upgrading to an Elekta Flexitron HDR afterloader. The candidate is expected to participate in the physician residency program. A clinically oriented medical physics research and publication record is highly desired. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
