About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Medical Oncology unit is responsible for the independent administration of a variety of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and injections. This role demands adherence to providers' orders and includes assessing and managing central venous access devices, performing venipuncture, and handling laboratory procedures through ports and catheters. The facility has an 18 semi-private bay capacity, providing critical oncology services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a nursing role, preferably in oncology.
  • Proficient in administering chemotherapy and understanding oncology medications.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient and family education.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy as ordered.
  • Access port-a-caths, PICCs, and Hickman catheters, ensuring proper handling and care.
  • Monitor patients’ conditions and responses to treatments, documenting all observations accurately.
  • Notify the Medical Oncologist or Nurse Practitioner of any unusual occurrences, initiating appropriate emergency actions as needed.
  • Provide comprehensive patient education regarding medications, treatments, side effects, disease processes, and lifestyle adjustments.
  • Verify informed consent prior to the administration of chemotherapy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hazardous drug handling and maintain a safe environment compliant with policies and procedures.
  • Utilize Epic EMR proficiently for patient documentation and records management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
