About The Position

Markham Stouffville Hospital is seeking a Medical Oncology locum to cover a 1.0 AFP funded maternity leave position from approximately October 1st, 2026, to September 6th, 2027. The role involves managing a medical oncology practice with a focus on gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and breast cancers. The successful candidate will join a supportive team of six medical oncologists, three hematologists, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, a drug navigator, social workers, and dietitians. The clinic operates with no overhead expected for the locum. Patient care is enhanced by a dedicated outpatient palliative care clinic and community palliative care team. Interdisciplinary care is coordinated with tertiary care facilities and regional cancer centers offering radiation. Multidisciplinary tumour boards are held bi-weekly in conjunction with Southlake Regional Care Centre. The hospital is also part of the Princess Margaret Cancer Care Network, ensuring streamlined access to consultations and collaborative care. Call responsibility will be shared equally within the Medical Oncology division, including managing new Medical Oncology referrals for inpatients and emergency department cases. Consultation and telephone support will be provided to patients admitted to Uxbridge Hospital. There is no requirement for Internal Medicine call or MRP work.

Requirements

  • License to practice Medical Oncology independently in Ontario from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Medical Oncology certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent
