The Medical Office Technician provides day-to-day staffing in an outpatient clinic setting, both clinically and administratively, depending on the need of the practice. This role is accountable for performing all responsibilities of the HAA (Health Administrative Assistant) as well as clinical assistant responsibilities as appropriate based on training, education, and competency. The technician provides support for clinical and medical staff in the delivery of quality medical care and creates a positive experience for patients by welcoming and assisting them as they move throughout the clinic. This role also involves performing waived and other in-house testing based on available equipment, documented training, and competency, and requires the ability to maintain a laboratory without supervision. Duties include obtaining patient specimens, verifying patient identification and orders, reviewing patient history, assessing appropriate blood draw sites, observing safety regulations, preparing samples for transport, and reporting abnormal or critical results. The technician is also responsible for cleaning, maintaining, performing quality control, and calibrating laboratory equipment, maintaining required COLA and CLIA documents, maintaining a stocked work area, ordering laboratory supplies, and participating in training of clinical staff in basic office laboratory procedures. Additionally, the role involves assisting nursing staff with patient care and transport, maintaining competency through reviewing guidelines and policies, and acquiring and maintaining knowledge of current regulatory standards.
