About The Position

The Medical Office Technician provides day-to-day staffing in an outpatient clinic setting, both clinically and administratively, depending on the need of the practice. This role is accountable for performing all responsibilities of the HAA (Health Administrative Assistant) as well as clinical assistant responsibilities as appropriate based on training, education, and competency. The Medical Office Technician provides support for clinical and medical staff in the delivery of quality medical care and creates a positive experience for patients by welcoming and assisting them as they move throughout the clinic. The role involves performing HAA and Clinical Assistant job duties as detailed in their respective job descriptions. Additionally, the technician performs waived and other in-house testing based on available equipment, documented training, and competency, and must be able to maintain the laboratory without supervision. Responsibilities include obtaining patient specimens using appropriate equipment and technique, verifying patient identification and orders, reviewing pertinent patient history, assessing the most appropriate blood draw site, selecting the correct needle gauge, preparing the site, and applying appropriate pressure after venipuncture. The technician must observe safety regulations and universal precautions in the collection, processing, and disposal of laboratory specimens. They are responsible for preparing samples for transport to reference laboratories, ensuring all specimens are properly labeled and the order matches the specimen. Reporting abnormal or critical results to the appropriate physician/ACP or clinical team member is also a key duty. The role includes cleaning, maintaining, performing quality control, and calibrating laboratory equipment within the practice, reporting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining required COLA and CLIA documents. Maintaining a neat, clean, and well-stocked work area, assisting with ordering, dating, and sorting laboratory supplies, and ordering supplies as needed are also part of the responsibilities. The technician participates in training of clinical staff, x-ray technicians, and physicians/ACPs in basic office laboratory procedures. They assist nursing staff in patient care and transport to/from examination rooms, laboratory, x-ray, and waiting area. Maintaining competency in all areas of responsibility, reviewing new and revised guidelines, procedures, and policies, and acquiring and maintaining knowledge of current regulatory standards are essential. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Velocity Care will require employee to obtain federal drug screen collector credential and federal breath alcohol technician certification within 6 months of hire.
AHA BLS-HCP required within first 90 days of hire.
Effective interpersonal, communication, and team-work skills required.
Must have keen attention to detail, superb dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
Must be organized and self-motivated.
Must become proficient in use of electronic medical record, clinical and clerical office procedures and equipment.
Clerical, medical terminology knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

Verifies patient identification and order ensuring accuracy.
Reviews pertinent patient history associated with blood draws.
Assesses most appropriate blood draw site, selecting gauge needle, site preparation and appropriate pressure after venipuncture.
Observes safety regulations and universal precautions in collection, processing, and disposal of laboratory specimens.
Prepares samples for transport to reference laboratories ensuring all specimens are properly labeled and order matches specimen.
Reports abnormal or critical results to the appropriate physician/ACP or clinical team member.
Cleaning, maintaining, performing QC's and calibrating laboratory equipment within the practice and as appropriate to education and training.
Reports equipment malfunctions to the practice manager or designee.
Maintains required COLA and CLIA documents.
Maintains neat, clean and well stocked work area; assist with ordering, dating, and sorting laboratory supplies.
Order laboratory supplies from appropriate sources, as needed.
Participates in training of clinical staff, x-ray technicians and physicians/ACPs in basic office laboratory procedures.
Assists nursing staff in patient care and transport to/from examination rooms, laboratory, x-ray and waiting area.
Maintains competency in all areas of responsibility, in part, by reviewing new and revised guidelines, procedures and policies.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of current regulatory standards and assist with conformance of standards.
