About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. This role provides administrative coverage at the front desk of the Clinic, including monitoring the clinic appointment line for scheduling appointments for clients from outside medical, hospital, and correction systems. The Medical Office Assistant will answer multiline telephones, take payments from clients for clinical services, complete client registration and documentation, and schedule interpreters for clients. The position also involves retrieving billing charges.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency plus one year of patient care experience in a health care facility.
  • OR a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • OR successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution or equivalent training.
  • OR EMT or Paramedic certification.
  • OR a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing and sitting.
  • Ability to perform job functions while walking and climb stairs.
  • Ability to work from elevated areas.
  • Ability to work in confined/cramped spaces.
  • Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions.
  • Ability to bend and twist at the waist.

  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors.
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment.
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions.
  • Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function.
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative coverage at the front desk of the Clinic.
  • Monitor the clinic appointment line to schedule appointments for clients.
  • Answer multiline telephones.
  • Take payments from clients for clinical services.
  • Complete client registration and documentation.
  • Schedule interpreters for clients.
  • Retrieve billing charges.
  • Coordinate and participate in daily clinic preparation, patient identification, check-in/check-out, charge posting, cash management, and appointment scheduling.
  • Provide customer service, message distribution, ancillary scheduling and preparation, and referrals management.
