About The Position

Humber River Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist for its Pathology department. As North America's first fully digital hospital, Humber River Health is dedicated to transforming healthcare through technology and clinical expertise. This role involves assisting physicians in diagnosing and treating diseases by performing tests on patient specimens. The department utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and processes to collect and test clinical specimens, providing crucial information for patient care. The hospital serves a community of 850,000 residents in North West Toronto and is committed to equity, inclusivity, and active participation in the Ontario Health Team. Humber River Health is affiliated with the University of Toronto and Queen’s University, aiming to become a community academic hospital.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Current registration as General Medical Laboratory Technologist or Histology/Cytology specialty with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
  • Successful passing of Clinical Skill Tests required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively alone or with all team members, including co-workers, physicians and other health care team members.
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of recent Clinical Pathology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Routine Histology to include specimen grossing, microtomy, special stains, Immunohistochemistry, frozen sections, specimen bookings and attending needle biopsies, and other rotating duties as needed.
  • Instrument maintenance and quality control.
  • Possible Cytology specimen preparation.
  • Can be assigned /trained in other Laboratory Disciplines
