About The Position
Performs all approved laboratory procedures in assigned licensure specialties, as required to meet workload demands. Works under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist II or III.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree Medical Technology or Bachelors Biology or Chemistry
- Clinical Lab Technologist License
- American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) Certification
- Previous experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician. New graduates accepted at the discretion of the Director.
Responsibilities
- Complete proficiency testing samples within the requested timeframe.
- Demonstrate competency in using the LIS and HIS computer systems.
- Ensure adequate supplies are available and promptly notify the supervisor when supplies are low.
- Assess situations from multiple perspectives, consider alternatives, and choose appropriate actions.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy with no more than 6 minor errors per year.
- Perform testing within defined turn-around-time parameters for STAT, timed, and routine testing.
- Assist in solving problems encountered by Technicians and Phlebotomists.
- Complete all work during the shift without sacrificing quality of care and leave minimal work for the next shift.
- Notify the Nursing Supervisor and floors of instrument and LIS downtime.
- Document all quality control, calibrations, maintenance, test and order comments, and reagent information accurately and timely.
