About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs routine clinical laboratory testing, specimen collection and processing, quality control, equipment maintenance, and result reporting in accordance with established departmental procedures, regulatory requirements, and standards of safety and confidentiality. The MLT performs CLIA-waived and moderate-complexity testing and contributes to a positive, service-focused laboratory environment. The successful candidate should demonstrate: Knowledge of routine clinical laboratory procedures and quality control principles. Ability to accurately perform laboratory testing and recognize results or conditions requiring follow-up. Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to maintain complete and accurate laboratory records. Understanding laboratory safety, confidentiality, HIPAA requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment. Commitment to patient care, service excellence, quality, and continuous improvement. Willingness to maintain competency through annual assessments, education, training, and professional development. Regulatory and Practice Scope This position performs laboratory testing within the employee's documented training, competency, certification/licensure eligibility, and departmental scope of practice. Testing is limited to CLIA-waived and moderate-complexity procedures. Requirements

Associate degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related laboratory science program.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be enrolled in an Associate-level Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Technology program or otherwise eligible for MLT certification/licensure.
License eligible upon completion of the required associate degree/program, as applicable.

Nice To Haves

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification through ASCP or AMT, or eligibility for certification.
Previous clinical laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

Performs routine laboratory testing procedures and accurately reports patient test results.
Performs and evaluates the accuracy of technical laboratory procedures.
Performs CLIA-waived and moderate-complexity testing.
Collects, labels, processes, and prepares biological specimens for testing.
Prepares and forwards specimens to appropriate reference laboratories in accordance with departmental procedures.
Performs instrument maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and basic corrective actions as required.
Maintains adequate supplies and reagents necessary for the performance of laboratory testing.
Performs quality control procedures according to manufacturer instructions and departmental policies for each applicable test or instrument.
Maintains accurate and complete records of quality control testing, patient results, procedures performed and required documentation.
Identifies out-of-control quality control results and follows established procedures for corrective and remedial action.
Documents corrective actions and other quality assurance activities accurately and promptly.
Performs quality assurance studies and other quality improvement activities as assigned.
Review and maintain familiarity with laboratory procedure manuals and departmental policies at least annually and as revisions occur.
Follows established policies, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements while maintaining sensitivity to confidential patient information.
Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Demonstrates required technical and professional competencies annually and as requested.
Provides instruction and guidance to students and new employees regarding laboratory procedures, safety practices, and departmental policies.
Completes required annual education and training.
Participates in professional development opportunities and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
Promotes a positive work climate and contributes to a collaborative team approach within the laboratory.
Supports a culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Position requires “On Call” rotation schedule to assist facility in maintaining emergency coverage. While “On Call” employee must be able to respond to Emergency Department within 30 minutes of receiving call in.
