About The Position

Premiere Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) for a 12-week assignment in Lewiston, ME. This role involves performing waived, highly, and moderately complex testing in a laboratory setting. The MLT will adhere to laboratory procedures, maintain quality control, identify and resolve issues, and perform various laboratory tests using both manual and automated methods. Responsibilities also include instrument maintenance, reviewing test results, recognizing age-specific differences, ensuring proper handling of proficiency testing samples, and potentially performing venipuncture or capillary puncture. The technician will also assist with policy development, adhere to safety and hospital procedures, and may be assigned Lead Tech responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor. Other tasks may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Requirements

  • Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
  • ASCP certification, or equivalent, required.
  • Associates Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
  • Minimum 1 year of hospital laboratory work experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform waived, highly, and moderately complex testing as stated in CLIA.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Follow the laboratory’s established quality control policies and procedures and document corrective actions.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct them or notify the supervisor.
  • Perform waived or highly and moderately complex laboratory procedures using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology.
  • Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment.
  • Review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
  • Recognize age specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and prohibit collaboration prior to reporting.
  • May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
  • May be assigned as Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor, with responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
  • Perform other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the department manager/director.
