The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) will maintain technical competency related to job functions. This role involves understanding pertinent LIS functions and performing downtime procedures effectively. The MLT will evaluate each procedure performed, choose appropriate investigative techniques, and identify and resolve problems that may adversely affect test results, notifying appropriate personnel. The technician will determine the acceptability of specimens through visual inspections or by recognizing abnormal/unusual results, documenting unacceptable specimens according to policy and communicating specimen requirements to appropriate personnel. The role requires assessing job functions and taking appropriate action when problems are detected, including identifying issues with specimens, test orders, and registration. The MLT will handle troubleshooting professionally, communicating with coworkers and customers during delays, and is expected to utilize complex problem-solving skills in resolving clinical and instrument problems.
