The Medical Lab Technologist, under the supervision of the Assistant Laboratory Director and Laboratory Director, performs laboratory tests and procedures as requested by the medical staff. This role involves performing duties in one of six sections: Hematology, Microbiology, Serology, Blood Gas/Point of Care, Chemistry, or Blood Bank. Responsibilities include maintaining supply inventory, performing maintenance on analyzers, assisting with the implementation of new analyzers, updating policies and procedures, performing correlations and calibrations, reviewing data, completing staff competencies, and investigating proficiency test results. The role also requires performing various laboratory tests, recognizing and resolving test inconsistencies, calling critical results, preparing and reviewing test reports, running and analyzing quality-control tests, and documenting instrument checks and maintenance. Additionally, the position involves providing in-service training, assisting with educational programs, answering phone calls, receiving and storing supplies, maintaining laboratory files, attending continuing education programs, observing policies and safety practices, keeping the work area clean, and performing specimen collection and processing duties as needed.
