About The Position

Somerset Community College is accepting applications for a Medical Laboratory Technician Instructor/Phlebotomy position. This role involves teaching medical laboratory technician and phlebotomy courses, coordinating clinical schedules, and participating in curriculum development and student evaluation. The instructor will supervise students in laboratory and clinical settings, with some travel to clinic sites as needed. Additional duties include academic advising, service, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Associate's of Applied Science degree, or higher, from an accredited university or college in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
  • Three years of related work experience
  • Current certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) with certification to work in Kentucky

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's of Science degree from an accredited university or college in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) OR Medical Technology (MT)
  • Classroom, laboratory, or clinical teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Teach medical laboratory technician and phlebotomy courses
  • Coordinate clinical schedules and documentation for phlebotomy students
  • Participate in evaluation of student achievement
  • Participate in curriculum assessment and development
  • Participate in review and development of program policies and procedures
  • Serve on program committees and participate in assessment of program outcomes
  • Supervise students in laboratory and clinical settings, with some travel to clinic sites, as needed
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge and proficiency in assigned content areas of expertise
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach effectively at the appropriate level
  • Academic advising, internal and external service, professional development and leadership
  • Perform other duties as assigned
