About The Position

LabCorp is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technician to join their team at Ascension Saint Thomas Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, TN. This role is crucial for providing vital information that helps clients and patients understand their health. The position operates in a high-volume, production-based environment, performing a key function in clinical laboratory science. The technician will be responsible for determining specimen acceptability, performing technical procedures, operating and troubleshooting instrumentation, making technical decisions, preparing and testing reagents, reporting test results, performing maintenance and quality control, managing supplies, and assisting with specimen processing. A safe work environment and the use of personal protective equipment are mandatory.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers
  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year or more of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical core laboratory, specializing in hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis testing
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
