About The Position

Inova Fairfax Hospital, Emergency Care Center is looking for a dedicated (generalist) Medical Laboratory Technician 2 to join the team. This is a PRN day shift working every other Sunday. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in science from a college/university recognized by regional or national accreditation agency. Other acceptable forms of education will follow the guidelines of American Society for Clinical Pathology or American Medical Technologists Board certification.
  • FORMS OF ACCEPTABLE EDU: Associate's degree or 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) in chemistry and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) in biology with the ELIGIBILITY for ASCP Board certification
  • Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science or Accredited Bureau of Health Education Schools accredited Medical Lab Technician program.
  • Successful completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the last ten years.
  • Three years of full-time acceptable clinical experience for eligibility for Medical Lab Technician. Board certification ELIGIBILITY can be used as proof that this requirement is met
  • 1 year of experience
  • Successful completion National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science or Accredited Bureau of Health Education Schools accredited Medical Lab Technician program., or a foreign medical laboratory science clinical training program within the 12 months can be used in lieu of 1 year of full time acceptable clinical experience.
  • Certified Medical Lab Technician or Medical Laboratory Technician-Upon start.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures quality specimens for Laboratory testing by recognizing pre-analytical factors that adversely affect patient results.
  • Communicates effectively and work cooperatively with team members to optimize job performance and foster working relationships.
  • Demonstrating a knowledge of operational/regulatory standards.
  • Operates systems/methodologies in order to produce timely and accurate data for patients, quality control and proficiency testing.
  • Participates in professional growth opportunities to enhance personal, team and departmental development by demonstrating operational knowledge and adhering to regulatory standards.
