Indiana University Health is Indiana’s most comprehensive health system, with 16 hospitals and more than 34,000 team members serving Hoosiers across the state. The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana, performing more than 19 million tests a year, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Medical Laboratory Scientist at the LAB performs laboratory tests on patient specimens and provides information for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of diseases. This role maintains records of performance and utilizes independent judgment to generate acceptable test results within quality control standards. The scientist may participate in research and development activities, act as a key resource person for staff inside and outside of the department, and instruct students, laboratory and non-laboratory staff on laboratory procedures and techniques. All tasks are performed according to standard operating procedures, and the scientist may work on the development and modification of procedures and assume additional responsibilities as outlined by management or the laboratory director.
