About The Position

Performs diagnostic testing across assigned laboratory disciplines, including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, or related testing areas, using specialized knowledge to support accurate and timely clinical results. Reviews specimen quality, performs testing procedures, evaluates quality control outcomes, troubleshoots routine testing issues, and supports consistent laboratory workflow. This position is PRN (per diem), working hours or shifts as needed. No weekends or major holidays. The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT) works independently within established clinical support procedures, resolving moderately complex problems that require analysis and occasional research. Decisions are made within defined practices, with clinical questions escalated to licensed providers. The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT) applies specialized knowledge to non-routine situations and provides subject-matter guidance to newer and entry-level staff.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, biological science, or related field required.
  • MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) certification required, or equivalent board certification through AMT or NCA.
  • 2+ years of clinical laboratory experience in a CLIA-regulated setting with demonstrated proficiency across multiple testing disciplines.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems, QC management tools, and CAP/CLIA/COLA compliance documentation.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to independently resolve technical issues in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Effective communication skills for reporting critical values and collaborating with clinical staff and laboratory management.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-6 years of clinical laboratory testing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic testing across assigned laboratory areas in accordance with approved procedures and quality standards.
  • Review specimen acceptability, test orders, quality control results, and instrument outputs before releasing or escalating results.
  • Troubleshoot moderately complex testing, specimen, or equipment issues within established laboratory protocols.
  • Maintain laboratory instruments, reagents, supplies, and documentation to support reliable testing operations.
  • Support proficiency testing, quality control monitoring, and corrective action documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance to laboratory staff on specimen handling, testing procedures, and workflow practices.
  • Communicate abnormal workflow conditions, testing delays, or result concerns to appropriate laboratory and clinical partners.
