About The Position

Texas Health Plano is hiring a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist for its Laboratory. The role is scheduled for weekday evening shifts, Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with occasional weekends. The Medical Laboratory Scientist evaluates and resolves issues involving specimen collection and processing, maintains specimen integrity through testing, and supports efficient laboratory workflow and timely patient care. The position offers opportunities for educational and career growth, teamwork, and participation in projects or committees.

Requirements

An internship in an approved Medical Technology training program is required.
Obtain one of the stated credentials within the specified timeframe: MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) within 90 days; an accepted alternative credential or license (including AMT, AAB, HHS, NCA, HEW, CLS-CA, Florida or New York state license, or Philippine Board of Technical Technology) upon hire; or M(ASCP) for work in Microbiology or BB(ASCP) for work in Blood Bank upon hire.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Applied Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
Two years of experience in a medical laboratory.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and solve problems related to specimen collection and processing, maintaining specimen integrity throughout the testing process.
Facilitate the workflow process.
Check the outstanding tests list in a timely manner.
Troubleshoot and follow through on outstanding tests that appear not to have been collected or received when expected.
Know and use computer downtime procedures when the computer is unavailable.
Help hospital and laboratory coworkers provide timely patient care.
