About The Position

Texas Health Plano is seeking a PRN Medical Laboratory Scientist for its Laboratory. The role evaluates and resolves issues related to specimen collection and processing and maintains specimen integrity throughout testing. The scientist facilitates laboratory workflow, monitors outstanding tests, troubleshoots tests that have not been collected or received as expected, and uses computer downtime procedures when needed. The position also involves helping hospital and laboratory coworkers provide timely patient care. The laboratory offers opportunities for educational and career growth, teamwork, participation in projects or committees, and practical use of hands-on knowledge.

Requirements

An internship in an approved Medical Technology training program is required.
Within 90 days, hold an MT(ASCP) Medical Technologist license or MLS(ASCP) Medical Laboratory Scientist license, or another listed qualifying credential: AMT, AAB, HHS, NCA, HEW, CLS-CA, or a Florida or New York state license, or Philippine Board of Technical Technology.
If working in Microbiology, an M(ASCP) Microbiology credential is required upon hire.
If working in Blood Bank, a BB(ASCP) Blood Banking credential is required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Applied Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
Two years of experience in a Medical Laboratory.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and solve problems related to specimen collection and/or processing while maintaining specimen integrity throughout testing.
Facilitate the workflow process.
Check the outstanding tests list in a timely manner.
Troubleshoot and follow through on outstanding tests that appear not to have been collected or received when expected.
Know and use computer downtime procedures when the computer is unavailable.
Help hospital and laboratory coworkers provide timely patient care.
