About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist position at Texas Health Plano is a PRN role working overnight shifts. This role is crucial for evaluating and solving problems related to specimen collection and processing, ensuring specimen integrity throughout the testing process. Texas Health Plano is a 386-bed, full-service hospital serving North Texas, specializing in emergency medicine and trauma, cardiology, neurosurgery and spine, advanced orthopedics, women’s services, adult and adolescent behavioral health, an adult intensive care unit, and technologically advanced surgical services. It is a Level II Trauma Facility, a Level IV NICU and Level IV Maternal facility, and has a DNV-certified Comprehensive Stroke Program. The hospital is a four-time Magnet-designated hospital, has the only AACN Beacon Gold adult intensive care unit in the DFW area, is accredited by the Joint Commission in Hip and Knee Replacement, and is a Primary Heart Attack Center. They also offer an on-site childcare center.

Requirements

  • Internship in an approved Medical Technology training program required
  • Licensed MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist 90 Days required or MLS(ASCP) - Medical Lab Scientist 90 Days required or other AMT, AAB, HHS, NCA, HEW, CLS- CA, FL, NY state license, Philippine Board of Technical Technology Upon Hire required or M(ASCP) - Microbiology if working in Microbiology Upon Hire required or BB (ASCP) - Blood Banking if working in Blood Bank Upon Hire required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology, Applied Technology, Clinical Lab Science or Chemical, Physical or Biological Science preferred
  • Two years’ experience in a Medical Laboratory preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating and solving problems related to collection and/or processing of specimens, maintaining specimen integrity throughout the testing process
  • Facilitates workflow process
  • Checks outstanding tests list in a timely manner
  • Troubleshoots and follows through on outstanding tests which appear to have not been collected/received when expected
  • Knows and uses computer downtime procedures as needed when computer is not available
  • Helps other hospital and laboratory coworkers to provide timely patient care
