Performs a variety of technical and general duties at a basic skills and knowledge level, functioning in one or more laboratory divisions. This role involves performing routine and/or specialized testing and procedures with supervision as appropriate, operating a variety of laboratory instruments, and performing quality control and instrument check procedures. The position also includes inoculating, cultivating, classifying, and identifying microorganisms, potentially performing blood grouping, typing, and compatibility testing, as well as chemical and/or immunological tests. Responsibilities extend to counting and describing blood and body fluid cells, performing coagulation testing, preparing reagents, and training other employees. The role may involve consulting with medical staff, participating in research activities, investigating new products and techniques, and entering/retrieving data from computer files. Identifying safety concerns and opportunities for process improvement is also a key aspect.
