About The Position

This is a full-time position requiring 3 - 12 hour shifts, from 7 PM to 7 AM. The role demands a flexible team player and may require weekend fill-in and holiday rotation. The Medical Laboratory Scientist will follow established procedures, perform blood bank procedures accurately, and conduct all quality control and instrument check procedures, maintaining related records. They will also perform and record preventive maintenance procedures and enhance professional growth through various educational activities. The position requires good judgment, with the ability to initiate resolution of instrument/QC problems and personnel problems without direct manager intervention. Adherence to safety practices, reporting of accidents/hazards, and equipment maintenance are also key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Follows established procedures 95% of the time.
  • Accurately performs blood bank procedures 100% of the time.
  • Performs all quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records.
  • Performs quality control testing according to established protocols 95% of the time.
  • Performs and records preventive maintenance procedures 95% of the time.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services, and workshops; applies to laboratory.
  • Attends at least one outside seminar per year or equivalent.
  • Suggests at least one workable idea for improving productivity or procedure to improve quality.
  • Demonstrates good judgement.
  • Initiates resolution of instrument/QC problems without manager 95% of the time.
  • Able to resolve personnel problems without manager’s assistance 95% of the time.
  • Adheres to safety practices, reports accidents/hazards and maintains equipment as outlined in hospital policies.
  • Follows any other instructions and performs any other duties requested by his or her supervisor.
